Brig. Gen. Barre Seguin took command of the 31st Fighter Wing from Brig. Gen. Jon Norman during a change of command ceremony here, June 9.

Presiding over the ceremony, Gen. Frank Gorenc, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa commander, commended Norman's accomplishments during a brief speech before passing the wing colors to Seguin, in recognition of his new command.

The wing's flagship F-16 Fighting Falcon with Seguin's name was on display, along with a four-group formation of commanders and chiefs, Italian Air Force members and Team Aviano Airmen.

"As General Seguin begins his command, give him what you gave General Norman: give him your trust. Trust your leadership and I am confident that this wing will continue to flourish, just like it did under General Norman's charge," said Gorenc. "The mission is our north star, our direction, our guidance. Follow it, and it will lead you."

During the ceremony, Gorenc thanked Norman for his leadership and accomplishments during his time at Aviano. Norman will serve as the Chief of Staff for the Pacific Air Forces at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.

"I have one simple message, I want to say thank you ... to the men, women and families of our Airmen, who do so much to make this the best assignment I've ever had, thank you for all you've done, you make me extremely proud," said Norman.

The USAFE commander highlighted Seguin's achievements and indicated his confidence that he is ready for the task of commanding Team Aviano.

"He is an accomplished officer with a superb background and the credentials necessary to build upon General Norman's legacy," said Gorenc.

Seguin became the 13th commander to lead the only fighter wing south of the Alps, this strategic location makes the wing critical to NATO security operations.

Seguin comes to Aviano from Air Combat Command at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., where he was the Inspector General. The General acknowledged Team Aviano's accomplishments and shared his excitement to continue the great path the fighter wing is on.

"As a team, when you do what it takes to fulfill our mission, together we will improve our combat skills, be Wingmen and build Team Aviano - professionally, purposefully, pridefully and passionately - 31st Fighter Wing standards," concluded Seguin.
