Airmen assigned to the 510th Fighter Squadron, 31st Fighter Wing, Aviano Air Base, Italy, will participate in a flying training deployment with the 48th Fighter Wing and allies from the United Kingdom at Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England.

The FTD will be the largest movement of Airmen from Aviano since the onset of COVID-19. All official health and safety guidelines will be followed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Approximately 15 F-16 Fighting Falcons and 200 Airmen from the 510th FS will be participating in the bilateral training event to enhance interoperability, maintain joint readiness and strengthen relationships with our regional allies and partners.

“This FTD will help to sharpen the Buzzard’s readiness and combat capability,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Daniel Lindsey, 510th FS commander. “Opportunities such as this allow us to exercise our deployment capabilities, equipment moves and setups, operations from different locations, and coordination with our NATO partners.”

Through strengthened relationships and engagements with our allies, the U.S. and NATO demonstrate our shared commitment to a peaceful, stable and secure Europe.
