The 31st Fighter Wing’s vision is to be the Air Force’s most combat ready, go-to Fighter Wing. Getting our jets in the air is a priority and requires Airmen from various units throughout Aviano to get the mission done.
The squadron has spent the last year hunkered down since we’re at the epicenter of Europe’s pandemic. I’m very proud of their discipline and dedication to mission throughout.

Chief Master Sergeant Chad T. Gaddy is the 510th Aircraft Maintenance Unit Superintendent, Aviano Air Base, Italy. He provides senior enlisted leadership and resource management to more than 200 maintenance personnel supporting 25 Block-40 F-16C/D Falcons valued at 950 Million dollars.
During a recent raid on a terrorist stronghold in a remote Afghan village, U.S. ground forces came under enemy fire. They called for close air support, and shortly thereafter, an F-16 Fighting Falcon dropped munitions to eliminate the threat.
U.S. Air Forces in Europe led an all domain mission with assets from U.S. Naval Forces Europe, U.S. Special Operations Command Europe, and U.S. Space Command, in the Black Sea, July 22, 2020. The mission occurred in international airspace and waters within the Black Sea and was designed to train U.S. forces to integrate, operate and communicate while executing all domain operations.
Airmen assigned to the 510th Fighter Squadron, 31st Fighter Wing, Aviano Air Base, Italy, will participate in a flying training deployment with the 48th Fighter Wing and allies from the United Kingdom at Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England.

"D-bal" Austin, 510th Fighter Squadron commander, during a change of command ceremony May 10th at Aviano Air Base, Italy. Colonel Austin took the reins of the 510th FS from Lt. Col. Michael E. "Moses" Thompson.
Col. Patrick McKenzie's Final Flight with the 510th Fighter Squadron ends in a traditional wet-down (water salute) by friends and family members. This "Fini Flight" marks the end of McKenzie's time with the Buzzards. Rule!
